About Mavis Technologies
Mavis Technologies was established in August 2023, following our CEO's master's degree at the University of Northampton. Motivated by personal experience as a visually impaired individual, our CEO recognised the challenges faced by people with visual impairments and set out to build a company dedicated to assistive gadgets and smart glasses for blind and visually impaired people.
The name Mavis comes from Magic and Vision — our belief in creating solutions that empower independence.
We design and build smart glasses that prioritise reliability, affordability, and user comfort, and we're a small, close-knit team that moves quickly and cares deeply about the people who rely on our products.
Purpose of the role
We're looking for a motivated, organised Customer Support Intern to join our team. This is a great opportunity to build practical experience in customer-facing operations within a fast-moving technology environment. You'll be a key point of contact for our customers and prospects — handling queries promptly, managing orders, and channelling customer feedback back into the business.
We're offering this role as part of the Get Set Progress (GSP) Internship programme, run by Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB, which creates employment opportunities for blind and partially sighted people. Alongside your day-to-day work at Mavis, you'll get structured support, training, and mentoring through TPT — see below for details.
Main responsibilities
Customer enquiries & communication
- Respond promptly and professionally to inbound calls and emails from customers and prospective customers.
- Answer product and service questions clearly and accurately, ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Identify customer needs and match them to the right products or services.
- Escalate complex queries to the wider team and follow up to ensure resolution.
Order management & coordination
- Receive and process customer orders accurately, ensuring all details are captured and confirmed.
- Coordinate with internal teams to oversee fulfilment and delivery progress.
- Proactively communicate order updates and delivery timelines to customers.
- Resolve order discrepancies or delivery issues efficiently and professionally.
After-sales support
- Conduct structured after-sales follow-ups to ensure satisfaction and address any outstanding concerns.
- Build ongoing relationships with customers to encourage retention and repeat business.
- Identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling where appropriate.
Person specification
Important: This role has a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that the successful applicant be blind or partially sighted.
Essential criteria
- Able to travel to the TPT Hub in London for development events during the internship (costs covered by TPT).
- Not previously undertaken the Get Set Progress internship programme.
- Right to Work in the UK for the full duration of the internship. Sponsorship is not provided.
Essential personal specification
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — confident speaking with customers by phone and email.
- Highly organised with good attention to detail; able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- A customer-first mindset with a genuine desire to help and solve problems.
- Comfortable using digital tools and software (e.g. email, CRM systems).
- Proactive and self-motivated; able to work independently as well as part of a small team.
- An interest in technology or commercial operations is advantageous but not essential.
What you'll gain, on top of the role itself
Because this internship runs through the Get Set Progress programme, you'll join a large cohort of fellow interns from across the sector and gain:
- Valuable work experience within the charity sector
- Technology support (including Microsoft Office) and upskilling opportunities
- Online and in-person training and development
- The chance to present and network with senior leaders in the sight loss sector
- Relationships with fellow interns across the cohort
- A personal mentor offering support, advice, and guidance throughout
You'll also be enrolled on the TPT Works For Me Employment Programme, receiving bespoke support and guidance on:
- CV writing
- Job searching
- Cover letter and speculative letter writing
- Application form writing
- Interview techniques
